I have recently acquired an early set of SR molds. I have made a few tops and would possibly be interested in making replacement panels if there was enough interest.

Here is a picture of the finished top:

http://images.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/885621.jpg

http://images.thesamba.com/vw/gallery/pix/885622.jpg

It is the black part only. I used the "sail" panel to show how it fits. But I do have all 13 molds for the entire SR. Some need work before I can make any parts. I figured I would check to see if there was any demand before I repaired the damaged molds for production.

Saw your post on the Samba as well, Jeff. I'll have to dig through some parts that I have - I may have a set of side marker lights (or two) that were correct for the original SR's. Might have a couple other pieces as well... I know I have the glass for the side windows - couldn't bring myself to toss those, even though they weigh about 10 pounds a piece!

Tom was progressing in making a set of molds before he had to close his shop. I don't know how far he actually got, but I'm guessing not too far. I was going to try to mold mine by taking a casting of my original and cleaning it up. There are quite a few casting kits on the market; it's not hard, just a little time consuming... plus trying to find the correct durometer rubber to mold!

There is a guy on a 914 forum I follow that makes all kinds of reproduction rubber parts for 914's. He might be approachable for re-making some of these bumpers - if some demand was there? I'm guessing it would take a commitment (and maybe deposit) for a dozen sets or so before he would agree to molding these - otherwise the cost gets too high.

Would there be enough demand to do a small reproduction run? Based on the general (lack-of) SR traffic here (and I know of no other SR message board) - I'm guessing not.

Are there any DIY rubber molding kits out there?

Jeff
