Status After a month of tinkering and a 6 to 12 volt conversion...IT RUNS! Took my first drive and instantly got excited waves and smiles from the ladies :)

Story When I was growing up a close friend used to get dropped at school in a dune buggy - I found out that his dad had a business building them...years later I was at his dad's house and saw a weird looking body on the ground in tall grass - it had a swoopy nose and gull wing doors - I asked about it and was told it was called a Shalako. Even more years later the internet hit and I remembered their weird body in the grass and went searching the web for more examples...never having seen one assembled I wasn't too sure what it would look like....and...after a few years of looking ...examples finally popped up. Then one day in 2008 a clean example came up for sale in Florida (I live in NY) and I was able to grab it and have it shipped to Long Island. Among the paper work that came with the car was the original bill of sale which told me that it was manufactured just down the road from where I work! AND...a business card that read "HoBo Buggies"...wouldn't you know it? That was my friends dad's shop - talk about coming "Full Circle"!
