As the title states, I currently dont know the year of my chassis due to the previous owner(s) damaging the vin, I believe I know what it is but it doesn't match any of the chassis decoder websites ive found so far, any help? Picture enclosed.

edit: I believe I can make out the vin as 3-9-8-4-5-2-4

Looks like it is complete and in good condition except for being painted over a bunch of times. Older Bugs have a 7 digit VIN, your chassis number is from a Bug built in June 1961.

Vin numbers weren't standardized until 1981 so vehicle manufactures could use their own formats. Yes that serial number is correct and the proper length for a beetle of that age.
