I mistakenly add this to the wrong forum topic Sorry.
On my 73-74 1600 crankcase there is a brass fitting type device on the the mounting flange. It has a white nylon inside and looks to be OEM installed. I do not remember of disconnecting anything from it, so I'm at a loss. If it were on a modern engine I would say it was the broken portion of a crank sensor of some sort. There is most likely someone in the "Buggy Bunch" that has seen this before.

Thanks for the info. When I looked at it I suspected in was some sort of a sensor. Its hard to beleive that in those years there was the beginning of "electronic controls". Reminds me of the wand that GM used for setting timing on their cars, I think in the late 70s to early 80s. I surfed on The Samba for the info but, not knowing what to call it, my search was hindered.
