Unusual "cutout" above rear tires with a raised ridge along the entire edge of the gelcoat. Flip up lid in the back. One-piece hood/dash is intact. Plumbed to use the stock exhaust heater, which I've never seen before...and am curious about. Half of sticker on the back states "____PLASTICS", and under that "___UTAH".
Just bought this DB, and appreciate your help identifying it. Thanks in advance. Rick ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
Got a buddy who is a buggy guy who lives in Utah who's been into VWs and buggies since the 60's, I'll pass along some pictures.

Just got this info from my friend. He's on a road trip right now and can get some more info later.
"Hi Brad. I recognize the body but I think the hood has been changed. I call it a Moab Buggy as it was made in Moab, Utah. I think the fellows name was Francis Barnes or something close to that. They were made starting around 1967 and can be seen in articles he wrote for HVW's in 67, 68 and 69. All the Moab Buggies I have seen (about 20)have two small funny looking hood scoops" brad
Thanks, Brad. That's more than I had before. This one's on a '68 frame, so the timing's right. It's got what appears to be the original gelcoat, so it seems a hood swap would have had to happen during fabrication. Not sure a one-of-a-kind DB is a great thing....now, if it were a Porsche....
