I picked up a buggy on a trade deal. It has a vin# stamped in the tunnel. Problem is it has been welded in. Looks like it was from another body and cut out and welded in this pan. I live in Kansas and to get a tag I have to have the vin inspected at the hiway patrol.I have heard that they just look to see if it is stolen but this doesnt look very good.Any Ideas on what I should do?? Any pictures? It could just be from the pan shortening.

I will try to get a pic. No the pan was cut about 8 inches forward of this. This appears to be about a 5 inch piece welded in the pan with the vin# being about 3 inches. Thank you for the reply

Well every state is different for RMV requirements. I assume you did not get a title with the pan?

Clearly a VIN was removed and a new VIN was welded in. It could have been done because the builder had a trashed pan with a good title and a good pan with no title. Maybe he owned both ligitimately. Maybe one was stolen. Who knows.

I see two options....
1. Spend some time finishing those welds and painting them so it looks stock.
2. Bring it to the RMV and keep your fingers crossed.

Yes at this point, I have a girl that can run the vin to find out if it shows anything stolen. If it shows good I will grind down the welds best I can. Then I thought about using a thick line-x type spray to spray around the vin# so weld and grind marks do not show. Maybe glue some carpet in there with a window for vin. There is a Mississippi sticker in the windshield for 2003 so some body had it legal there in 03
