I've done it a number of times with my VW engine but was wondering if it would be safe to start my 140 hp Vair engine on the engine stand. I'm concerned with the added weight and torque.

How handy are you at putting together a Wooden Stand?   It might be a day or two but I could probably get a picture of the one I have my 140 on.

That is a fine looking 140!

I don't know what your test stand is like, but as long as it doesn't feel like it's going to tip over it should be fine.

I test-ran my Corvair engines adapted to VW transmissions while they were sitting on a small wood moving dolly. I wanted to make sure the starter adapter and bushing were properly seated, and the engine and transmission oil seals were functioning before installing them to a bodied pan.  The test run on the dolly worked just fine. Just make sure you aren't supporting the weight on the headers or pushrod tubes.

Jim, sorry for not getting back with you, Issues at home.   Do you still need those pictures or did you go with the wood dolly?   Just let me know.
