OK...need some feedback. Got around to the gauges tonight on my Deserter project (see build in the Build Showcase section). I have a set of black cockpit gauges that was a 5 gauge kit plus a separate tach that I got about 3 years ago off ebay.
I never took a real good look at them until tonight and much to my surprise the tach is a slightly different style. So here is my dilema...I need a tach. Now that becomes a dilema because I also have a set of white VDO gauges less a tach. So...I need feedback. What do you think would look best: 1. Go with the black cockpit style and get a cockpit black tach 2. Go with the white gauges and get a white tach 3. Just install the slightly different tach and go like that (I really don't like this option). Interior will have black seats and black boots on the ebrake and shifter. You can see the steering column in my build thread and the steering wheel is a black Lecarra.
I agree, matching gauges are a definite plus, especially if they are all in dash and together. I have a monster tach and VDO gauges and it looks alright because the tach is so far separated from the others, but in your case I feel a matching tach is a must. If it's different, I think it would look like you were just bargin hunting when it came time to get gauges for the car. Definitely not the look you're going for!!!
I think the white gauges would really pop against the metallic blue dash and add a bit of vintage vibe . The black faces would be more subdued and subtle for a racier look. I vote matching white gauges. BTW I love your car and what you're doing with it. The Deserters and Bounty Hunters are my favorite bodies of all time. I'm actually working out the logistics of a 5 day road trip across the border to get a Bounty Hunter...... brad
Thank you Brad for the nice words.
Its hard when you are doing something for resale. I want to appease the biggest chunk of the enthusiast population that I can. If this was to be my car I would throw in what I wanted. And I agree with your assessment. The white gives some "wow" but the black gives some racey feel to it. I might just install both sets and see if something screams out to me.
