Looking for some opinions!

My tack and dwell meter bit the dust.  I can set the points with a feeler gauge and get them fairly close, after all back in the day that is the way we did it.  I got to thinking I could install electronic ignition and not have to mess with the points at all.
Does the dwell have to be set in an electronic ignition unit or is it set at factory???

Does anyone have an opinion on electronic Ignition units or brands.  Where should I go to look for a decent unit one that won't give me trouble????

Or should I just replace the tack and dwell???

Go electronic all the way. No dwell to set. Petronix, compufire...they are all about the same in my opinion (and opinions WILL vary).

Something like this:

Pertronix or Compufire are the only ones I use. The cheap ones are JUNK with a capital "J". I'm running a Compufire DIS-X ignition in the buggy and love it and the Beetle is getting a Pertronix Ignitor ignition.
