I know less than you, but from looking at both my buggies, as long as you can mount up the vw motor and trans, it should only require different mounting for the axles. Corvairs seem to require a bit more space.

Others with much more experience should speak up.

So i would need to change both trans and motor it sounds like
I know a little about VW motors but really nothing about Corvair i was told that a corvair motor has a lot more HP and Power is that right?
I am looking at buying a T bucket style buggy that has a corair in it but the trans leaks really bad and needed to be completely resealed
I am trying to find out about how much i might have in to it to get it going if i buy it

On HP, the one that Will be in my Max is a 140hp Corvair motor. I believe they have more power, but you add weight to the vehicle.  I am not sure if the trans will interchange, but do not think so. Does your motor run well? if so, why not either fix the trans(especially if it still works and only leaks fluid) If it does not work, check on getting another trans. Is your trans a standard? They did make automatics for the corvair.  What would it cost you to pick up a vw motor and trans?  If you do not mind my asking, where in the country are you located? There might be a specific club for VW dune buggys or a Corvair club in your area, either of which would be better suited to help you locally.

Yes the motor does run well needs a new set of headers
I thought of just looking for a good rebuild trans or find out how much i could reseal the trans for
The bugggy i am looking at is a 4spd and i think a 164 CID Motor with a 380 Holley Carb
so do you like your corvair motor Ver your VW Motor

They both have their place. One is on a 69 Dean Jeffries Mantaray II Kyote, that is the 1774, well suited to that particular buggy.  The Corvair is in a Max, it was sold by some Chevrolet Dealers in the California area, as far as I can tell, It was produced by a company called SanBeret, They also made one just like it in body style called the FunCar.  The Max is corvair powered with transmission, corvair front and rear suspension and Gauge cluster. From what I can tell it had a warrantee from the Chevrolet dealers.  It is on a square stock chassis designed for the corvair set up.  They are both in the build stage. Takes more money than I have at times so things progress slowly. Hope to soon make a trip to California to get the builder of the Kyote to sign the body and provide even better documentation of when it was built.  Any information that anyone finds on the Max is always appreciated.
I wish you the best in the build or your buggy.
