I am restoring a dune buggy. The tail lights are missing, and the outline of the previous lamps are oval and measure 10" by 6". The outline resembles the 39 Ford tail lamps but I am told that the Ford lights are not nearly as large as what I need. Also, I am looking for a soft top. I have read about the sombrero top from TJ customs, anyone familiar with them or have any other suggestions? Thanks

TJC is a fine company. Email and the owner emails you back. Great service, great product.

TJC is good and I have bought from them before (carpet) but I had my top made at a canvas top maker for boats because they are local and anyone making a top will need the buggy
here is the link for my top i just had done for the tune of $1,300.00 so be ready to spend some $$

Andy, I am looking for a large set of tail lamps and I think yours will work. Where did you get yours? Stacie

My taillights are VW lights.
Not sure of year but think they are late 60's style.
You can find these in jc Whitney , mid american motors or almost any vw catalog

Someone on the forum may also have them. Think I even have a set from a 72. Useable but not perfect.

VW tail lights varied in size over the yeras. the real old ones had small snowflake lights. The Supers had HUGE lights. Usually the older non-snowflake lights fit the best.

The 10x6 impression leftr from the old lights would seem to indicate 68-75 Standard Beetle taillights. If you drive a lot in heavy traffic, I would reccomend you go with the bigger, brighter taillights, The snowflakes are very nice, but pricey unless you find someone giving them away. The 62-67 lights are in the middle look good and are a bit cheaper. If you go for original taillights with plastic lenses, really try to get a set of old original lenses, the current aftermarket ones are pretty poor in quality and tend to fade within a couple of years.
