Any advice on re gel coating a buggy. Suggested websites or how to books. Thanks, Barry
I've got a freind of mine who builds boats for a living. He's gonna show me how to put the gel coat on. I will post everything when I'm done.
Is there a specific reason you want to re-gelcoat versus just getting it painted?
Gel coating isn't for the novice. It takes a special spray gun to handle the viscosity of the gel (well, the right tip size anyway) and can quickly get out of hand if you don't know what you're doing. I've seen some nice gel jobs in the past, and they've always been from a professional shop - usually ones that deal in boat restoration.
I own a body shop and repainted my last buggy. I'm curious about gel coating because of the durability vs just paint.
If there is a marina anywhere near you, give them a ring to see who they might recommend for gel-coat repair. Talk with those people and see if it's something you might want to do. Since you know your way around a paint booth it would then just be logistics to see which would work better. You can spot fix gelcoat like paint, but gelcoat will crack much more readily. Depends on how you think you will use your buggy the most.
Vince (surfnc) is gelcoating the Manx SR that I sold him... see this post on his comments - I'm considering a similar approach on my buggy body -

the reason for gel coat is durability
