I would like to get an idea of how many people are interested in a dune buggy WALL calendar for 2012... put together with images submitted by our members, showing those fiberglass buggies we love so much. PLEASE only vote if you intend to buy. Although it isn't a contract... I would appreciate it if you thought of it like one... set the money aside even. There is nothing worse than telling me you are going to buy a 2012 buggy calendar and being counted in the production run only to find out you really don't want one, and I am stuck with a box full of calendars that I paid for. That would make my blood boil.

Keep in mind, this is being put together by a volunteer, and I really don't want to get personally shafted out of the deal. Thanks!

jay, whats the cost of a calendar
By Jay H (X-20) (ManxVair CC) Date 2011-09-07 22:16
That depends on what everyone feels they want quality-vs-cost. Please see this topic for an example:

I really need to put the cart before the horse and decide on a production number for the quotes to be accurate.

I've been requesting quotes in both 25 and 50 qty versions. Some companies (even short-run companies) have a 50 unit minimum, others will allow the 25 qty number to stand and it is quoted accordingly.... SO.. without knowing that we are beyond a certain number it's really hard to give a price. If we have enough interest and get over 50 units (which may be harder than it sounds), we may be able to get the total cost down to under $25.00

The other variable would be shipping/mailing which I haven't researched at all as of yet. I'm fairly confident that we can get a nice calendar for what you would pay for a nice calendar at the mall before Christmas... or maybe just over.

I wish I had better numbers for everyone, but at this point the pricing (and even company selection) will be held off until I have a better idea how many calendars we will be able to sell.

Assuming we can't get to 25 units, we will be forced to go with the smaller image on the page type of calendar due to the fact that these companies have more built-in profit margins and can afford very small production runs (under 25 even).

I'll take one.

I'm tracking the "yes" votes above. Currently three.

Its late and I didnt even read all of the above, I can tell you that 25 dollors or under is fair for all dune buggy lovers, so even if mine doesnt make the calender you can count on my 25 dollors to my door !!! Thanks for all you do for the dune buggy world, and you have my promise that Kellison Jim, Andy, and Brad will buy one too, Or this old South Carolina Red Neck will come looking for them !!!!!!! LOL

Sorry guys,
I've just gone through a busy spell in life again. LOL It comes and goes as I'm sure you all know. I'm learning a new position at work as an instructor. My guard unit just left for Afghanistan.  I was named Squadron Superintendent, so I've got more going on there, aside from holding the position of Shop Supervisor... Things get crazy.

Pictures have been coming along well and I will update the submission post in just a minute.

Brian, thanks for proofing my title! I have no idea why I can't type, lol... but I've fixed it to say 2012.

By Jay H (X-20) (ManxVair CC) Date 2011-09-25 13:32
From the looks of the poll, it looks like we have 10 sold. (as long as I can keep the price under 25.00) I can say that I've had emails saying I'll take "X" number of calendars so the real number is 14. Right now, I think we need to get more interest in the calendar. I know it's tough to get people interested in something that isn't even put together yet, but I'm hoping some of you out there may have ties to local buggy clubs that you may be able to canvas to see if there is interest.  If one of you wants to hit up the samba with a post, that would be awesome. I've got to hit the road in a few minutes, so I won't be able to get that done today. I would like to see a definite 30 (so I'm sure we will sell the minimum 25 calendars) Time-wise, I think we are in good shape. I will have to finalize the artwork, get a proof, make any changes, and give the go-ahead for print. In that time, once I have a contract with a print company, we can begin ACTUAL sales, where we take funds.

My goal is to have the calendar printed and shipped in enough time to allow you to have it to your doorsteps in enough time to throw Christmas wrapping paper on it if you want to give one as a gift.

By Lloyd B 2301 Date 2011-09-25 14:34
I do not remember if I said I would take one, so if I did, do not double count.  If price is around (under the $25.) I might be able to swing at least two. Not so sure how many folks are here in my area of Idaho.

I would like 2

By John S 2 Date 2011-10-06 03:37
I don't know if you remember the 2008 Calendar or not.
That was the last one I did for the site.
They were made by Cafepress our website shop.

There were 2 sizes 11x8.5" and Oversize Calendars were 17"x11" full color.
Small ones were a hard cost of $14.99 and sold for $17.99 plus shipping.
Large ones were $18.99 and we sold them for $21.99 plus shipping through Cafepress.

We made $3 on each one to help offset the cost of the DBA domain.
We sold 16 calendars.

The hardest part was getting high enough quality images 3500x2300 pixels at 200dpi.
Cameras have improved so much since then this shouldn't be as tough as picking just 12 buggies.

So far the Texas people want 6 calendars. I imagine we could bring that to at least ten or fifteen before all is said and done.

OK all, Sorry I've been away again, but rest assured the project has progressed. I have gotten all the quotes and have been working the details with the company I felt best suited our needs.

John, I did not select Cafe Press to print our calendars this year.

Stay tuned, We are working final details, and I'm hoping we will have solid cost numbers soon.

I voted above for under $30, but I will likely get 2 or 3. Can we combine shipping?

I also posted this on my VW forum.

We got enough pics.
Made a few practice one's with my pics and had it printed because I was concerned about resolution and it came out okay so I hope everyone is happy with them. I did my best and if I do it again next year it will be better so everyone we have almost a year to take nice pics with high resolution.
I will be finishing up in a day or so, will order twenty five and hope to have done by end of the week.
Hope they all go if not i will have one or two in every room !!! I can order more later if needed.
One calendar will be 20.00 plus 4.95 priority shipping on e bay but need to confirm what fees they will charge. I figured 2.00 bucks for fees but need to check that and pay pal.
18.00 if someone does not have e bay and pay pal I can get a check plus shipping of 4.95 priority mail.
I will give you guys more info in a day or so and post some pics of product on e bay in a few days when I pu from the printer.
By Kellison Jim Date 2012-01-24 04:28
They take their cut out of shipping fee's too, so you might want to charge $25.00 with free shipping in the lower 48.
