It has a very unusual but cool professional built glass body and is most likely an unique vehicle. The car has been sitting for many year but will fire when primed. It needs some TLC to bring her back alive and streetable. I have the pink slip and it is currently registered as a 1966 VW and licensed thru 2012 with the original black license plate. A different and truly unique car. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
It is called a Sand King SL-71
It was on the front cover of Off Road Driver (formely known as Road Test/Dune Buggy magazine), June 1971 issue. Looks like it still has the same paint job now as it did then. Dick Sims and Chuck Lyon Sand King in North Hollywood where the ones that built it. Is 80in wheelbase and was made just for driving on the street. Design to look like a Group 7 race car at that time. Sand King was on 11629 Vanowen, North Hollywood, CA 5 page article on it with a unfinished Corvair triple port engine in it. Used stock VW fuel tank up front and 5 gallon aluminum tanks on the sides. Rear lights were 1965 Chevy truck front turn signals. Looks like it would be a neat one to own.
To far for me but that thing is BAD A$$ , I would have to carry a crow bar to get myself in it but who cares, LOL LOOKS LIKE A ROAD TRIP FOR JAY !!! Ken,...............

I'm not a fatalist, but good God! The only "safe" whack in that thing will be from the rear... Fuel cells are a good thing. Still, I want. Powered by mwForum 2.10.2 © 1999-2007 Markus Wichitill |
