Well hello to everyone, this is our first project and it looks to be a BIG one. We found this buggy sitting on the side of the road and had to have it. At first you get all mushy inside thinking about how cool it would be to drive this thing and then you step back into reality when you get it home and start tearing it down. Here are some pics so far and any help identifying this would be great.

Wow George. It looks like a great project. Polish up those wheels, they fit the look of buggies great. Tilt the roll bar back to match the windshield. I wish I could have started out with something in that good of condition.

Thanks for the words of encouragement. I have finally got the body off and will post some pics of my findings. It doesn't look good though.

Well finally had a little time to finish the tear down process. Not happy with the findings though. As you can tell, there is quite a bit of damage underneath the front hat. Anyone have any ideas on how or who can fix this mess?

been thinking about finding another beetle as a donor but it would have to be an early model, pre-1969 and those are kinda hard to find.

Yikes. That is some serious rot. Anything is possible though. Most of that sheet metal is available. The tunnel would really need to be pristine for me to try to save that.
Do you have axle issues in the rear which require it to be a pre-1969? What about a Berrien chassis?
Not sure where you are located but The Samba has some:
