Any one have any charging issues with those aftermarket 75 amp alternators. Mine stops charging sometimes when I first start  the engine and wont charge until I turn lights on and off a bunch of times. Then the gen light goes off and my volt meter goes up. I wont have any issues until I shut the engine off and start it again. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks, John.

Do you have a LED gen light?

Do you rev it up to about 2k rpms?

Ken,
Your light wired correctly? What type of alternator? Internally regulated?
By Brad H 1498 Date 2010-06-29 18:49
If the lights on it's not charging. All the current aftermarket alternators have to reach a set rpm before they start charging ussually around 2000 motor RPM a bit higher with a power pulley. The dash light should have a key on power source to it and then the ground wire goes to the small terminal of the alternator. It will stay grounded (keeping the light on) till the alternator starts charging and opens the ground contacts in the alternator.

Does the light come on after the alternator starts charging on the gauge? If so, he has the light wired into the B+ circuit and not the D+ circuit. I've included a PDF diagram of how to wire an alternator

Live that dream Ken. If I'm ever shopping for another buggy I know who to contact!!!! Do you deliver?  LOL

It will work as long as you want it to. It's just more annoying than anything having a light on all the time, but I guess you'll know it's charging LOL. I sent the post from home last night but the link works for me here from the shop computer too, I guess it's time to pack up the TRS 80 and get a newer computer there Ken LOL. If you can't open it goto CIP1dotcom go to electrical, high performance charging  and click on any of the alternator kits there is a line that says something like "click here for wiring instructions" and see if you can get it there.

He doesn't by chance have the wires reversed on the alternator does he?!?!?!?!?

This summer my plate should read "PARKED" We had another wicked storm last night with 4 inches of rain and golfball sized hail. We've now exceded our annual rainfall in 2 months.

What terminals are the wires on? The big one going to the battery should be on B+

More rain tonight with thunderstorm watch!!! Some streets were flooded up to your waist and a plumbing company we do fleet work for brought one of their F250 vans this morning on a hook. The water level on the door panel was even with the inside door handle!!!!! The mayor is on the radio begging everyone not to do laundry, run the dishwasher or take long showers as the sewers still haven caught up draining the rain from last night. Tomorrow is Canada Day (our July 4th) supposed to be nice...here's hoping
