My name is Patrick (call me Pat) and I live in CT. I have had my buggy since 1983. Loooong story but Finally started to restore my toy in 2000.
I poked around the forums here for a long time and after talking to Pilot Ricky on here and on IM I found out I have a 1969 Sand Tiger. He sent me some pic's from a magazine and who made it and background info and the manufactures brochure. I have all the info on my web page for the build/restore of my buggy so everyone can check it out. http://members.cox.net/netgamz/ I'm also looking for others in this forum that live near me so we can hook up and possibly start a local buggy club. Below is some of the info I got from Pilot Ricky ![]() Thanks for looking!
Hi,
My name is Jared and i live in Wallingford CT. I think the idea of starting a local club is a great one and i would love to join. You can reach me by email and then we can exchange numbers if you want jared121879@aol.com. My buggy is a work in progress and in not on the road right now , but you can stop by and take a look if you want.
Thats cool, I'm in Enfield. I'm in the same boat as you.... not on the road :*(
I go to 2 VW shows every year, The Litchfield Bug In at the Harwington fairgrounds (June 21 this year), and the Connecticut Bug-A-Fair at the Terryville fairgrounds (August 16 this year). Maybe we could hookup at the show as well!
sounds good, i also think im going to the
The CVA's 19th Annual Spring Dust-off, Mansfield Hollow State Park, Mansfield, CT from 9am to 3pm tomarrow
I forgot about that one. I've only gone once to that one a long time ago.I might go as well. Thanks.
![]() ![]() As far as starting a local Buggy club goes, I always thought it would be a great idea, but its something I have little time to devote to starting up myself. It seems like there is enough interest to start something though. I would recommend sending Paul a message asking him to start a forum for a CT club... you'll want to have a cool name for it. Then we can all meet online at first to try and get something rolling up here in new england. Jay
Hi Jay, I do remember talking to you! I still have work to do on my car, but hope to have it for the show in August.
What changes did you do? will you beat the show in June? I hope so! I think you, Jared and myself should talk if we are all at the June show. ![]() As far as changes go I've got a Subaru WRX motor in it now I keep going through trannys so I ordered one from Rancho. I'm hoping it will last. I like the idea of getting together. That would be fun to go for a nice Sunday drive maybe to Gillette's Castle or Devil's Hopyard. There are some good photo opportunities around there. Jay
That sounds like a plan to me!!!
Mine is parts all over the garage at the moment. My parents moved out of their house and all the big stuff (pool table, water bed, computer desk and hutch) landed in my garage. I can't even see my poor car! ![]() I plan on getting to work on it in May. ![]() Jay
HAHAHAHAHHAHA... more like a pit crew!!!
![]() ![]() Jay
This is what I started with..
![]() Got the new chassis, and went to town. Got the chassis all good and then built my 2275cc power house. ![]() got the body on the chassis, and made it look nice with a test fit of everything. ![]() put on the reworked rims and tires (fronts are P195 50 R15 and the rears are 60 295 r15), made my own brake light and blinkers mounts then installed the new LED lights. I also picked up a hard top for it. OYAEH! ![]() ![]() I took it all apart because the chassis is not level, so after I fix that i will put it all together and then I'm going to put a new gelcoat and fire red flake. ![]() Jay
Yeah, its different... All my friends call it the Monster Mobile when they look at the pic of just the back with the hard top on it. I also have a rag top for it.
Engine cover, Why yes... Yes I do, 2 actually! This is the original one that came with it. It is in need of real bad repair. I'm thinking of cutting the center section out and installing clear Plexiglas so you can still see the motor with the lid on. ![]() And this is the one I got from Vinny who lives in Torrington,CT, He also has a Sand Tiger like mine and didn't want his and he gave it to me!!! So now I can experiment with my original one and not worry about it! ![]()
Here is some more info on my Buggy...
