Guys,
Please throw down some of your ideas for how to make FUNFEST even better.
While things are still fresh in your head, how about what you liked and what you would change.
Anything at all.

My only suggestion is parking by model.
I am not used to a show with all different cars all over.
I think it makes hard to see how BIG the show really is.
It makes it look kinda scrambled up.

If we could have only got all those dune buggies in ONE row, image that photo for a keepsake!!!
Maybe we could have had a "all featured vehicles to the winners hill", photo opportunity....

John

I think a lot of buggy guys parked with the friends they drove in with regardless of type of VW's their friends drove. Others parked with their clubs. It might be hard to get all of the buggys together.

Anyone think a big "hospitality" tent and nametags might be a good idea?

I think they should have it in Florida. :-)

I already suggested to MAM not to do another Poker run.  There were just too many cars so we had traffic jams at each card location.  10 minutes of driving then 15 waiting.  They said that they had more cars than they planned on.

In 2003 we took a scenic drive to a winery, visited for a while, then returned to MAM.  Was more fun really.

I understand they are going to put together a buggy corral next year for buggies to park together.

Was fun seeing everyone!

We took a buggy & a trike this year:  They had the trike park in a different section from the buggy.

I'm thinking if it is really hot - nametags might not stick so well - My buyer's card was pretty soggy this year!

Here are my idea's for next year:

Maybe we could have a DBA Club Area in the club section (for those who don't have a club already) - they kind of had that this year, but I took it as parking geared more toward those participating in the build.  This wouldn't reach the goal of only buggies/all buggies but it would be closer than this year.  If a buggy pulled in with no club - they could ask if they would like to park with the DBA.  I would have loved to stumble upon you folks about 4 years ago.  I talked to a couple of people who recently purchased their buggy and didn't know much about the style that they had yet.  I clued them in on the best place to find out!!  It seems with the price of gas - this hobby is making a comeback.  I haven't actually figured it up, but new memberships on this site appear to have picked up in the last 6 months or so.

Also Eric - next year can you please add trike (or atleast other) to the models on the registration form?  Thank you.

My suggestion is for dune buggies to talk over another show like the kit car show at carlisle next year.

Carlisle is strange show and pet peeve of mine.
They have a great facility but there is so little promotion in the VW hobby most people don't know about that show.
They want to make it fit too many makes and syles of cars.
It's like it's the orphan show at Carlisle.

If Carlisle would promote a VW only show with VW vendors and VW activiies they could really turn that show into something.

Just my opinion.

I think the show was much improved over previous years.
I liked the music and the bonfire.
A longer cruise would be nice.
I didn't like the poker run aspect of the cruise. After being in the sun all day, sitting in the sun in a buggy and waiting for a card was killing me.
A few more Port O Johns and get the ones with the solar powered ventilation fans to cool them off a bit.
The club section was a great improvement.
Control vehicle traffic in the camping section between 11:00pm and 7:00 am. I had 2 noisy vehicles come within 3' of my tent between 2:00 and 4:00am on Saturday night.
Maybe consider a slow speed obstacle course.
The MAM employees are far too helpful and talkative, it's not right. I'd like to thank Nancy and Matt for putting up with me and my stupid questions, all weekend.
I'm sure the SouthSide Buggistas will be more prepared for next years event.

MAM, Thanks again for a great event!!!!!

I have some experience in over-populated run planning myself. My suggestion would be to keep the poker run and have a ceiling of 52 cars. They should also have several other runs planned to leave all at the same time, with different staging areas. This lends itself to having the ability to host several different classes, most likely by engine size (Which is great for keeping the group together and equally able). Having a pro-street bug riding behind a '49 split window isn't going to be fun for either driver if you know what I mean.

One improvement on the poker run would be to have one person hand out cards and have the vehicles go to the person, rather than stopping the entire group to hand them out (At least that's what we were seeing in the front of the line) It would be better to slow down to a rolling stop and grab and go as you go by.

I would like to see fireworks too! This may keep people around that might have decided to go to their hotels early on.

I think alot of people left for the hotels early because of the weather forecasts....I had thoughts of getting a room on Friday night until I saw the storm going north of us.....I really didn't want to ride out a tornado in a tent.

LOL, that's a little more fun than you would have bargained for at a car show! :-)

I talked to the folks at MAM about having a Buggy ID tent next year where people could pull through with their dune buggy and we could "ID" it, maybe register it on the site with photos (just thought of that now), print out any literature we have like original ads and send them on their way.

MAM was pretty receptive to the idea.

I know MAM has been very particular about parking in the past. They have wanted the "featured car" parked in one area - which is why the buggies where parked along the main drive or in the club area.  And they intentionally mix the rest of the cars together.  This was the first year for club parking and I think that worked great.

I would like to see all "buggies" parked in a row at some time so we could get a picture. On winners circle would be fun if we could get permission for that.

I'd like to see an off road autocross.  I love to autocross.  Maybe something Sunday afternoon when the normal show slows down and ends. Or maybe we can set some pylons up around Jerry's tent at 2AM and hold it in the camping area.  That sounds like more fun!
