Ok, may seem pretty elementary but I could use a little help advice separating my old fiberglass shell from the vow frame. I am starting to go thru this old buggy and hit a snag. There is a rubber seal of sorts between the shell and frame and it is pretty dried out. Tub almost seems glued. Anyone have any ideas?
There are products out there to "soften" rubber, but not sure how it would react to fiberglass. Best Advice I have is to start at one area and use a flat bar or a scraper that is rigid. Lift, a little and drive a wedge(wood shim stock} then move down the frame, you may need to do this all the way around. This is what we have to do sometimes with old trucks and fenders.
Thank you, I will give the pry bar a try. I am thinking about a sawzall as well. Just go slow and keep the blade pointed down toward the frame.
I find the gasket scrapers handy.
Cheap one from HF such as: Central Pneumatic Air Scraper Kit 6 Pc. or hand driven: Pittsburgh Non-Marring Scraper Set, 4 Pc. A low temp heat gun such as used for putty and paint removal can help soften up thing a bit. Powered by mwForum 2.10.2 © 1999-2007 Markus Wichitill |
