We just purchased a Manx last week!
Now I'm in the process of getting it ready for Connecticut DMV inspection, which is a real pain because they have very strict guidelines.
I've only driven it a few times around the block, it's killing me to have to work on it!
My wife is very excited and looking forward to changing the wheels / tires and seats as well as driving it!
Look forward to sharing the experience with DBA!

Nice ride. Where did you pick it up? Got any more pics?

Nice clean Manx.

A question. Did you know that registering it would be such a intricate experience?

Give us details on what you needed to do to get it CT legal. It might help others down the road.

There is a thread here - http://www.dunebuggyarchives.com/forum/topic_show.pl?tid=2048  I have done 2 composites in Connecticut.  Not fun but doable.  I am helping with this one.  Tom

Good thread. I was hoping that Madmanx would give us sort of a diary of his personal experience. Maybe he doesn't like to write though.

When I bought my Deserter in 2011 I had no idea about the Specially Constructed Vehicle laws in Pennsylvania. It slowed down my build considerably. The Manx I had in 1974 was registered as a 1965 Volks Convertible. I don't know if there were any special rules way back then or not but I never had any issues with Registering it or insuring it.

Zipping ahead to 2011, I knew a little about PA Kitcar registration from an old information packet that I got from PENNDOT in the 1990's but I had no idea how the rules changed (sometime around 2007.)

I wish madmanx luck and it all goes smoothly. He is fortunate to have someone to mentor him through the process.

Hi All!

Just to bring this up to speed....

My wife and I wanted to find a Buggy in state. An in state car doesn't require inspection. The ones that we found weren't what we were looking for. So we started looking out of state and found this Manx! My wife really wanted to have a Manx!

When I first Googled "Register a Dune Buggy in Connecticut" DBA was the first to pop up!

Tom and Kathleen had written a thread about this process. I noticed that they live just a short distance away from where I work! So I did the 411 and was able to get Tom and Kathleen's phone number and gave them a call. Tom couldn't have been more friendly and helpful. After talking with Tom, my wife and I decided to try and get the out of state Manx through Connecticut DMV!

My wife took the two hour drive and saw the Manx in New Hampshire. After meeting the owner and  looking at the Buggy, they agreed on a price. She came home and filled me in on all the details! The owner was very nice and let us use his N.H. registration to tow it home. Out of state Composit cars must be trailered to be inspected. They cannot touch the ground......unless registered out of state. So we will be able to drive to DMV once the Manx is ready to be inspected. A BIG plus!

Again thanks to Tom & Kathleen and DBA!

I'm taking pictures as we go so I can post them for others to view!

Madmanx!
