This is a pic of a cable operated turning brake in an original Manx I just bought.  Does anyone know if it is an original Manx brake?  If it is I would like to put it in mine for nostalgia sake.

Second question.  Something is not right with it since you have to push down on the levers to actuate either side brake.  If you pull up on any of the three it pulls up all three levers.  This is an early Manx so the brake may be an early design and may be completely useless.  I can't figure any other way to put it together.  Thanks

I have similar turning brakes on my Imp.  Mine pivot off the same bolt as the main parking brake - so you pull them up to engage a single brake at a time.  Paul...

I have a set of chrome NOS add on handles but, the tabs for the cables are at the sides.
Could these be installed wrong?
The bolt that holds them on for my handles goes through the center pin location.

Paul,
Do you have a pic. of your turning brake setup
An old timer by me has an old turning brake setup on the buggy he built back in the day
It also uses the e brake cables. Was wondering if you have the same thing
I was thinking of trying to fabricate one like it as he doesn't remember where he got it , & I can't seem to find anything dut the hydrolic kind
Thanks John

Speaking of turning brakes, here's the set-up on my Manx. I'll duplicate it when I re-do the car...

Those look familiar.  I got these out of an original Manx also.

Here's a picture of the turning brakes I put on my Imp.  I picked them up at a MOFOCO swap meet a number of years ago.  Paul...

My brakes are just like yours YellowManx, pushing down applies that side, pulling up applies all 3 levers. Pushing down kinda makes sense, keeps you from applying the brake and having it ratchet "on".  Mine is an early Manx too, maybe a Manx part?

I'll have to see if I can get a pic. of the ones I'm talking about & figure how to post pics.
Pretty sure they were round bar stock with chrome balls on top

Here is a picture of a set that was in a vintage Manx that Randy Carlson bought from the original builder.

Yellermanx,

I have a Manx 2 built on a 1962 VW that has that exact set-up.  I just recently got this buggy and too was wondering how those work.  When I pull up on the center, it locks and works like a standard parking brake...but did not know how the tuning part works.  Is this a Manx part or a VW part?

Hey Steve.  I am not using them, but I believe you need to loosen your e-brake adjustment a little.  Then you pull your main/center lever up a couple clicks and leave it there.  Then you push down on which ever one you want to lock.

I don't know if they are a Manx item or not, but the only ones I have seen have been in Manxes.  If you find out for sure please post it.

I know this thread is old, but - Yes, the sets that are flush with the ebrake handle are original meyers manx cable operated turning brakes.  You push down to stop each wheel independently.
Terribly difficult to find.
