So its a Berrien chassis? Probably given the diamond plate floor and tunnel.

Its still being sold by Acme.

The body tag under dash says Citation  Berman Speed Equipment.  From what I read Berman was bought by Berrien.  Is it a Berman frame pre Berrien?? Has very nice Diamondplate floors and is a quality Built frame.  The dune buggy runs and drives It has been converted recently to 12 volts system and included the 6volt  parts taken off. and has dual carbs I am posting a picture of carb can anyone Identify what carb and distributor are??

Looks like some old...very old...Kadrons.

Can't see the dizzy in the picture.

Distributor looks like a 009 mechanical advance unit. You can rule out driving in shorts, checker plate is pretty abrasive. Cool car.

Used the tow bar to bring it home

By AMAC1680 Date 2015-06-19 13:05
Cool. Tow bar can be a buggy owners best friend!
and let's face it other drivers love to see a bug-in-tow, lol.

Pressure cleaned it and cleaned out the gas tank. Put fresh gas in and am now driving  my dune buggy. got all lights working. pulled column and fabricated new bushings around the shaft. needs new cap rotor wires and plugs. but runs and idles well.  after  a long ride oil out of valve covers and possibly one head,  Do I retork heads and get new valve cover gaskets?? rear bush guard needs one eyelet welded and I can remount it tomorrow.  brakes work, but will do new wheel cylinders and pads.   I have three lug holes that are stripped what is the solution???   The upolostry is original and the copper metallic gel coat remains in-tacked in side. Fiberglass is very solid and no rust on frame and nice dimond plate floors.  Posting a picture of the Berman tag found underdash.

Congrads, keep up the work.

As far as oil from the valve covers I can't tell if you have bails or bolts holding the covers on.
It's been my experiance that with the bails new gaskets may require some permamtex or the like to keep them from leaking.

AE = should be 1971 dual port 1600, Im new to this so if I'm wrong someone please correct me. I remember it because I myself hav a AE motor that I looked up. The original owner told me it was a 73, But when I cross referenced the # in my books, it came up 1971.
By Jeffrey P 655 Date 2015-06-20 12:57
Yup...early 1971 1600cc DP. Nice motor. Good foundation for whatever you might want to do with it.
By Dave C 4367 Date 2015-06-20 17:02
Your motor is very close to mine. I have AE 328985, yours is AE 330404. Only a 1499 difference.

its probably a 009. Look for the #'s stamped into it. There is no vacuum can on it. So 009.

You say it's a 1965? Does the VIN on the paperwork match the number with the hole in it or is it a 1965 VW VIN? I'm thinking that tag is the Mfg Body Serial number.
