Agreed...although the market suggests otherwise I guess.

I'm I missing something here? I spoke with the guy and you are right about his reserve price on the buggy (I think it was $10500) it is a nice looking buggy and has a lot of new parts and as a bonus it has the low look that I like but that being said its NOT a real Manx and it's really not all that special, do you guys think this is a fair price? I feel like I could build a comparable buggy for that price and then I would know exactly what's in it, I'm I wrong? Let me here your thoughts on this please!

I paid $9200 for mine, and it's totally fresh as new.

Yeah that's what I'm talking about Dave and as you say yours is a brand new build!

By AMAC1680 Date 2015-06-06 16:56
Donald IMO it's not worth 10500.00 and here's why.
First and foremost that same buggy, same seller, was on Ebay almost exactly a year ago and didn't sell.
Same exact description. Based on that alone how "new" are the parts he says are new. Remember this is the same guy that put the Manx badge on it when it's just another buggy body.

But more important you buy "as is" and your on your own.

Last month I took a barn find that needed a rebuild on the motor/trans. Needed CV joints. New ball joints upfront. Full rewire. Also needed brakes and new lines and shocks . It was a POS but the pan was solid built like a sandrail. When it left the shop everything that makes it go and stop was replaced.

It's an everyday driver and that means the beach so I kept it basic but at the end I'm in 5600.00 right now. thats with warentees something the average seller can't do.

If I threw another 4 or 5 large at it it would be near perfect. Why pay for another guys dream, or problem, when there are people that will build you what you want.

If I were going to spend 10,000.00 plus I'd "have it my way".

Just my .02

Depending on how much you can do yourself you can creep into the $7500-$9000+ cost range real quick. If you can't build an engine, weld, or do body work & paint your costs escalate very very quickly.

I did everything on my buggies and creeping into the $7500 in materials was pretty easy.

The red buggy had a nice motor upgrade with carbs/ignition & headers. It also appeared to have 4 wheel disc brakes. Those are features that I have found that most people don't want to pay for. They like shiny paint and fancy wheels. Cost wise that motor was probably a $1500-$2000 upgrade from a stockish single barrel 1600cc. The brakes are probably a $500+ upgrade.

That being said I don't think its a $10k buggy. If it was a Manx then he would get that price...especially given the old school appearance.

Yeah that's what I was thinking to, I'm not trying to knock the guys buggy because it looks good to me but for that price you starting to get close to a real nice buggy or a nice new build in my estimation, I just wanted to get some buggy educated opinions on it!

Who are these people that will build a buggy like I want it AMAC???? names, numbers, websites!!!!

By AMAC1680 Date 2015-06-07 12:13 Edited 2015-06-07 12:16
You'll find a couple of websites for companies that will build a turn key. Of course I'd go over to The Samba and let all know I'm looking someone to do a build.

Ill bet there's an air cooled place close to you that can do it. These things are best done the old way. I'd look around and then go see the local guys. Go see them you'll get more info than a phone call. That way you can also see the shop.

What I find impressive is that there are still people willing to pay for what they want. There's been more than a couple of guys that had no issue going 10k plus for a nice "non Manx" buggy.

If you are serious about a build I'd also shop around for a donor bug. Never know what you'll find and it could save a chunk of money in the long run.

I dont know where your located but on Face book there some guys at Amelia Island Fl that work on dune buggys and their back yard has alot, that maybe for sale. I met some of them at a show they sponsored. Theres some pictures on there of what they have. The FB page is Dune Buggie Brothers. Mike is on here some to.
By AMAC1680 Date 2015-06-08 11:20
Mike and the other Dune Buggy Brothers are good guys. They did a great job putting on the first "buggys on the beach" over Memorial Day. If they don't know of one for sale they may be able to point you in the direction of who can build one.

Worth a shot.

Theres a Allison on Ebay starting bid 950.00, might be in PA by the old inspection sticker in the window. Red& white might clean up and buff out not many pictures of it.

I'm going to try and attach some pictures and see if anybody can help me identify this buggy type?

Except for the hood I'd take a shot at a Mark II Sportsman.
That looks a lot like the buggy I pulled out of the barn in May.
