I have had this Dunerunner for 3 years now, it has had lots of upgrades including front disc brakes ,new seats,carpet steering wheel etc etc etc. I had a front bumper built with an integral base plate for a BlueOx tow bar. It is a swing axle and I just towed it back 1000 miles from Cabo to SoCal towed like a dream. Unfortunatly the rear has been cut and reworked.

Very nice, I wonder why someone cut the rear off. Oh well, I built mine in 1968 and am still driving it during the summer as a street buggy. I really like the low entry design on it. I just had the engine rebuilt last year and it is the 6th engine I've had in it. My wife and I drove it from NW Ohio to the Oklahoma Indian Territory in 2001 for our 40th anniversary. 2,000 miles in 9 days. What a trip.

I've also re-wired it last year with a wiring harness kit from Rebel Wiring and love it. I'm in my late 70's.

Thanks for the compliment, the previous owner said that the rear flange had cracked due to people sitting on it. So he had a boat shop in BAJA cut the rear and fiberglassed in 2 support brackets under the rear lip. He also had an inch bar welded to the Roll bar that circles the rear lip. I think I would have been happier if he had just fixed the old cracks. It would have looked better.

When we bought our "Roadrunner" now called a Dunerunner,  in 1968 we chose it due to the low side entry. None of the others in San Diego had that feature. Now that we are in our mid to late 70's, that low side entry is definitely  an asset. LOL. There were all kinds of Dune Buggy Builders builders in SoCal at time and it was "Love at First Sight".

Looks great ,do you have any pics with top up. I am going to try and find a shop to make a soft top for mine soon. I would like to see yours up.I live in the Oceanside Ca. area if anyone has any recommendations.  Thank you.

P.S. My rebuilt engine is a 1600 stock, all decked out in chrome and runs like a top. 40 mpg.

Colin, try these, I had to copy them on the copier then transfer them to e-mail so the quality is not the best.

I took these before rebuilding and chroming the engine.

Im looking at a 67 buggy that I "think" could be a "Road Runner" "Dune Runner" Pic isn't great but it has a ridge down the hood, a grill in front and a rear seat. Can anybody I.D. it? Thanks.

Yes, thats how I narrowed it down to a Dune Runner Shelbiette. I then goggled that and came up with a few pic's and read that someone thought years ago they were called Road Runners, but because of legal issues they went/stuck with Dune Runner. I'm new to this buggy thing. Is this a good buggy? Anything I should look for? I won't be able to look at it for another week or two, the owner is out of town. "IF" I do purchase it, I want to replace the steering wheel, shifter, and put on old school Craigers with new tires. I read that the seats in it may be original, if they are, should I keep them if I replace them? Thanks again....!!

  I have been told that the Dunerunner/Roadrunner was built with two different thickness fiberglass bodies . A regular one and a "competition" body. The "competition " body was apparently fairly well built. I believe it is has a noticeably different thickness to the 'glass. The seats are drivers preference. I replaced mine (they were fiberglass buckets) with an after market 19" seat, expensive but for me worth it.

Look under "Build advice" in the forum index and open "buggy seats" its about 4 down . It has a previous thread dealing with the seat issue and the help that I received while searching . Some good pictures too.

Warner bros sued the Roadrunner maker in 68 or'69 forcing the name be dropped. Mine is an original Roadrunner, May '68. The competition body is what I have, they are considerably thicker material. The "roadrunner/dune runner is readily identified by the low side entry characteristic.

So would this 67 Im going to look at be one?

That is almost definitely an original Road Runner with the Shelbiette Hood. I like the added grill. To be positive, I'd need to see the rear.

I can't tell you if it an original color, but given the age, it almost has to be a repaint. Most Dune Buggies back in
those days were metal flaked in a mold. So if it has paint on it (like new) it is a repaint. Can't tell 'bout the color.

This was his reply when I asked about the paint and rear lights.

((rear lights are old mustang style...i've owned it about 17 years....not repainted during that time...))

Is your's metal flake, can't tell from the photos?

By the pic's, I'd say no. But I'll see in a week or two. Crossing my fingers on this one.
