Hello from Roanoke Rapids NC!! I just purchased my 1st Buggy, which happens to be a Tuff Tub. I have owned several aircooled vw's over the years but have always wanted a buggy since I was a teenager, and that was about 30 years ago! LOL!

This buggy has been stored since the early 90's. It is registered as a 1977. The pans are original to the car. No patch work or welding. Very little surface rust. Absolutely no rust on the underside of pan. No rust or corrosion on front axle beams. Motor was rebuilt just before being parked. ALL original parts, windshield & frame, bumpers, etc... I am so freakin excited about this buggy!!

For other Tuff Tub owners or others, I have a few questions:

1) Where can I purchase a custom top for the Tuff Tub? I have seen several pics of Tuff's with a "viynl" top with zippered sides. This is something I would like to find if possible.

2) How would you recommend attaching a roll bar to the frame? I figure my 17 year old, Lonnie IV, will be driving the buggy more than myself.

3) I am 6'4" and I have a "tuff" time (pun intended) getting in the buggy. Is there a way to move the seat or runners back so entry into the buggy will be easier?

I look forward to posting pics of the restoration as we go! Thanks in advance for your help!!

1) Places that make tops for boats are great places to get a top built. It will be custom..and kind of expensive.
2) Most "roll bars" are purely cosmetic. The single hoop styles are often referred to as mousetraps. A roll cage is the safest. A race car frame shop would be your best bet. You want to tie it to the pan and the rear shock towers is a often used location.
3) your best bet is to lose the stock VW pans and install some flat floors with a modification to the rear tunnel lip. This will give you some added length to adjust the seats. Then ditch the stock VW sliders and get some low profile sliders.
