I HAD THE ENGINE REBUILT, NEW POTS, THE WORKS, EVEN A $700 CARB BEBUILD.
THE ONLY PROBLEM I AM HAVING IS WHEN I START IT INITIALLY, IT SMOKES UNTIL WARM-UP. I HAVE PUT A LITTLE LESS THAN 500 MILES ON SINCE THE REBUILD. ANY INITIAL THOUGHTS? AM I RUNNING TOO MUCH OIL?
P.S. The smoke is white
Valve guides are worn out or the rings, but probably the guides
brad
Does the smoke go away when warm? Water usually indicates water vapor. Do you do a lot of short drives with it?
I don't ever do short drives living out here in the country and if I'm not misttaken, the guides were replaced during the rebuild. I'll have to check with the guy, I know he replaced the exhaust valves completely.
The smoke does go away as soon as it warms up, ( within a couple of minutes )
not a VW expert, but may just be that the rings need to be run in to seal well. How many miles are one the build.
