I've always loved the Bounty Hunter and Deserter GT body styles. 3 years ago on my way to Bonnevile I found one. Last year I saw it again and made mention that I'd like one and asked if it was for sale. 2 weeks from now the wife and I are taking a 3200km roadtrip/vacation and I'm getting my Bounty Hunter from my good friend Burly Burlile of Hot VWs and landspeed racing fame. It's mostly complete only missing the "T" tops, but the rest of it's all there. Unfortunately the wheels in the picture don't come with the car, but I got friends in the wheel biz

Here it is.

Hope everyone is enjoying summer.

:-) The license plate says it all. Looks killer just with the rear window section in place.

Thanks guys. I'm pretty stoked about getting it. It's always been my favorite body style and I feel very lucky to find one.

I'm on the hunt for anyone with one with T tops who can give me the dimensions of the tops. I think making them will be very easy, but I'd like to get them as close as possible to the originals. So if anyone out there has one with the complete tops please get hold of me.

Already scheming the tube chassis for this one. Don't want to cut the body like I did on mine so will be a little different. Also want to keep the tank in the front, which we couldn't do on mine. Have been looking at the Berrien and Barrett chassis' but I feel they are WAY over built and much heavier than they need to be for a street car. Very nice products but I think I can do the same job with less material.

Here's a car from France that is a total inspiration for the build

They need to put a grille in that one ^. It looks like a surprised frog.

Now I really want one of these, though... there's one in Massachusetts.... must resist....

Well, 3800km later and we're both home safe and sound. Touring it around town tonight on the trailer, but, I'll post a bunch of pictures once it's cleaned off and sitting in the garage.

Here she is safe at home. Hopefully I'll get it out tomorrow for a good clean before sticking it away for a bit.

It's also the last out of town trip me and my trailer are making. After 20 years of faithfull service it's time to build a better one with suspension and a better weight distribution for carrying a Beetle.

Thanks Ken, How are ya old friend?

Already sketching dash layouts and chassis plans. I'll be building another tube chassis, 'cause I need to drop the floors about 4 inches. But it will be much more simple than the last one and only have a single bar with rear facing legs that fit inside the roof.
I'm going to try and use a Type 3 torsion housing, they are far lighter with stamped shock towers instead of cast and they are much smaller around the torsion tube. I'm going to raise the torsion housing up as high as I can, run the original swing axle and build my own front beam from parts I've bought over on the samba. Dropped spindles and disk brakes all around are also planned for
I have an original way of mounting the front beam that no one has done that I know of so the front of the chassis should be unique.
The motor will be small, something like a 1776 with twin single carbs, quiet exhaust. Just a nice little cruiser.

But gotta finish the 57 first, and then I think I should make a big purchase for someone else in my life before I get this project started. But gathering a few odds and ends along the way.
