I REPLACED THE KINGPINS AND BUSHINGS AND NOW I NEED TO REPLACE THE WASHER/SPACER THAT  GOES ABOVE THE SPINDLE CASTING. THERE IS A THICK WASHER/SPACER THAT HAS A SMALL HOLE IN THE EDGE OF THE WASHER THAT GOES ABOVE THE KINGPIN.

I DON'T WANT TO CALL IT AND IT DOES NOT COME WITH A NEW KINGPIN & BUSHING KIT. IT SUPPORTS A FIBER WASHER THAT SITS IN A SMALL CUP.

ANY IDEA AS TO WHERE I CAN GET THEM. (OR WHAT YOU CALL THEM)  THERE IS ONE (1) FOR EACH KINGPIN.

You need a "Linkpin rebuilding kit".

It called a king pin spacer.  They where at one time available in different thickness.  One place I worked at had the different sizes.  This was 20 years ago and new one were unavailable at that time.  Have never seen new ones for sale even now.  You have to realize the last year they were used was in 1965.
If yours are missing you going to have find someone that is willing to part with them or by another set of complete spindles to get them.
When I am rebuilding them now and the fit to tight I sand down the fiber washer.
It they are to loose I use link pin shims between link carrier and bottom of spindle to fill space.

But, I think the shop that reamed my KingPin Bushings lost the spacer I'm referring to.
No point in "crying over spilled milk" as they say.

If I can get one in a new Link Pin Kit, I'll go that direction. Might as well get busy on it tomorrow morning as Tuesday I have to go under the Gamma Knife for a Neurological Malady I've had way too many years. It's called Trigeminal Neuralgia.

When I was off road racing using the king and link setup,  I would eliminate the fiberwasher and the metal cap it sat in and just use a stack of link pin shims.  The fiberwasher pounded out from being used hard than it was meant to be was the reason to going to the metal shims.
If you cannot find the spacer just using a stack of link pin shims is an option you can use.
It there any old VW repair shops near you or a VW salvage yard?  
You may be able to find a spacer from someone like that.

Yes I think I just might know someone around here who woulld probably have some of these shims. 
I strictly use the buggy for street cruising, so it shouldn't be hard on the shims.

Believe it or not, I called the shop where they reamed my kingpin bushings and they still had my old parts, spacer and all.  I'm good to go now.

One thing I was supprised to note is that one of the spacers is considerably thicker that the other one...............

And yes they did come in different sizes.   I don't remember what they are were.  The shop that had the different sizes had been in business a long time before I started there.
I have no idea when VW discontinued offering them as replacement parts.
