It is on a 69 VW frame. It has 2 parts, the body is one piece and the hood and dash are one piece. The tail is a double box design and the hood has the raised portion, It has a battery box recessed well on the right side under the rear seat.

Side design looks similar to a Beettle, are you out west?

The body has Safari roots, but both hood and dash are different from Safari.

Jay, I think if you look at his picture of the full backend, you will see that the raised section is much wider than the surfari one. Just what I think I see.

I too think the closest match I can find is the Safari models, but again nothing truely matches.

Lloyd, I believe you are right on that point. Good eye! There was another body that had the Safari lines.... Darned if I can remember what the name of it is now though. Hopefully I'll be able to have a look after work. Don't hold your breath though.

Dang... Found what I thought it was, but it isn't... Thought it may have been the elusive BIRD. We have only one picture of the BIRD and there is no hood shown with it. To make things more difficult... the picture we do have is a shot above the body.

Larry G, is your buggy on a full frame or cut down?  Jay H, Would knowing that help in finding a close match?  I know that it would be a real hassle, but would be nice if you could search data base by specific feature. IE the dash. On Larry G's it has some features that might be unique, the Oval section where the guages are is only a slight rise from the flat surface.  If you look at the dash where the hood and it "joins" the hood has a very nice radius, might the dash been made and joined to the hood later? I see where the steering collum(sp) is has been Cut so the whole body can be pulled up without taking the the collum off.
Larry G, can you look under your dash to see if it looks like it might have been a separate piece and glassed onto the hood? Might even find a card up under there?

Even If you do not find out what/who it is, It is still a very sharp Buggy!

Lloyd, We have a built in feature to search by dash in the BUGGY ID. (Red button to the left).

Unfortunately, the criteria is not well populated per buggy, due to the simple fact that we do not have that data for any but a select few buggies. Honestly, selecting anything in the dash category will not return but a handful of results, so is not a good feature really.

It is a full frame and by looking under the dash it appears to be one piece, A guy I know who works with fiber glass at his job is gonna look at it this weekend to make sure.  Has got me stumped. I've looked at so many pictures trying to find a close match even that now I'm Bug Eyed so to speak. LOL

I have another question for anyone. Any idea what this buggy is worth ? It is not my buggy but trying to find out for a very good friend. She has all the paperwork for everything that has been done to it including a complete engine rebuild, instalation of complete wiring harness, air shocks, chromed engine components, carb rebuild, clear coat paint, etc. Any thoughts would be appreciated. That Q has been asked a lot before. Unfortunately there is no Kelly Blue Book for dune buggies. With a fresh engine rebuild, good paint, etc... I would say between 3K and 6K.

A lot depends on things like if it is manx looking buggy, color, size and condition of engine, interior finish, tire and wheel combo, and the list goes on and on.

Personally I think the name of the back detracts from the price, but to someone else it may add to the price.

The TRUE deciding factor is how much $ is the person who is most interested in it willing to give for it. Not a definitive answer, I know, but that's really the only true answer.

I would recommend your friend have a look on craigslist in her area only for a little while and try to come to a good valuation on her own. That's going to be tough, because she's likely to be a little biased and is certainly vested. Also, she should keep in mind that the prices she sees are asking prices only.

Thanks Jay, Your answer is pretty much what I figured. Is why I posted here to try to figure out what body it is . You and Loyd tried to ID it but couldn't find anything definitive either. We do appreciate your help. It had to be made by somebody so I'll keep looking at pictures. Thanks again.

We continue to have new models show up here. It seems like at least one a month if not maybe more. Sometimes X files are X files for many years before being identified. (My own buggy is an X-file: 4 years and counting). Other times, things happen VERY quickly as far as an ID in concerned.
