Hello,

Thanks for a great website!  And an active forum :-)

This little dune buggy has been in the family for ages.  We're the new owners and need help with identifying the body's manufacturer.  We've searched through the buggy mfr id's listed, but none match so far.  Key id marks:

- Classic Body
- Offset hood bump (drivers side),
- Yankee signal/brake hardware throughout
- Engine lid with metal fasteners/locks

Marilee, That's a unique one for sure. I haven't come across one like that with the offset hood scoop before. Have you had the hood off the buggy before? One of the questions that will be asked is weather or not the fiberglass looks like it is original, or if the offset scoop appears to be added on by a previous owner along the line.

Marilee, thanks for the PM on this one. This does look just like this one: http://www.dunebuggyarchives.com/forum/topic_show.pl?tid=1268

We'll have to see if anyone has any more info on Welch Fun Cars. We do have a car that is a known Welch Fun Car, but it is a different body than yours. I'm speculating that Welch may have made more than one body though, so I wouldn't runle out welch, just because it doesn't look like the one we have in the ID section here: http://www.dunebuggyarchives.com/gallery/base/Welch%20Fun%20Cars/?base=14c1bea73f59fa988f66d00d169ceb04

I wish I could have remembered I saw one like it, but after seeing so many bodies, I'm bound to forget I've seen one like it from time to time. Nice catch!

Jay--any luck on an id for the manufacturer of these 2 X-50's with the offset hood tach bump?  As there are multiple models of the exact buggy, can we get a category?

Anyone else have thoughts or input?

I recently purchased a buggy with the exact same body, and saw one for sale last week that was the same (The seller has made quite a few body mods, but it's the same body).  I am in Salt Lake City, Utah.  When I bought this, rumor was that it was a Welch Fun Car.  This made a lot of sense, as they were produced in Midvale, Utah, a suburb of Salt Lake.  I have tried in vain to ID this as well, and until I ran into this post yesterday, and the one for sale last week, I had never seen one with the huge offset pod on the hood.  My car is identical to the blue one on this post and the yellow one in the thread attached to the post.  I am going to try and dig up info on the WFC company, and see if I can locate any info on styles they produced.  There has GOT to be someone affiliated with the company still in the area.  I posted pictures of mine in the x files last year and didn't get any hits (it was lime green at the time).  This is encouraging that there are more out there.  It's been frustrating tracking this one down, and it's nice seeing a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel!  Where are the blue and yellow ones located, if I might ask?

thanks,

rees
