Depends on where you're at. Here in PA the troopers tend to frown on those, though most will let you slide.
I see some using them here in the carolinas, I got stopped with them and the officer told me they are illegal and if he saw me with them again he would ticket me. Ken.............
they will bounce them in CT if you have to go thru inspection
how about the same light without the dot.im a pa er
They're illegal here. As are red lensed driving lamps used for 3rd brake light....found this out in my Oval....But officer I just want people to see I'm slowing down.....got a warning. LOL
brad ![]() The law "illegal display of blue light" (at least that's what NY entitled the violation) is typically to protect whatever color light is used for police, fire, or EMS as well as volunteers. Most states have this law. typically only amber (yellow) and white (headlight) are the only allowed colors forward facing. Red, amber, and white are the typical rearward facing colors allowed. I know when I was a volunteer fireman, I had to have a current endorsed card to allow me to have a blue LENS visible to the public. I was only allowed to have it lit when responding to a call, and if my choice of lighting was outside of what the law allowed (IE, more than one bulb and a single rotating reflector) then I could get a ticket for "Illegal Display of Blue Light" even if it was not illuminated. (Ask me how I know, LOL) Anyway, I believe most officers will turnt he other way when blue dot conversions have been done on a classic car, but there is always the exception. Best thing to do is to have spare lenses before you drill the 15/16" hole for the blue dot in your only set of lenses. Jay
red it is.thanks,i knew truckers get pulled over for them lights.
You'll be fine with the lights without the dot - they're repro Ford items.
Yep, 39 ford to be exact.

Yes to install them you must cut the body, although I think now there are some flush mount LED replicas available but they are about $100 a side. They have very nice glass lenses and cast brass, chrome plated bezels. I put retrofit LED lenses in my $30 housings for $80 for the pair, They are way brighter than regular bulbs.
I made a template of the hole that has to be cut out of thin cardboard, just cut it out until the light socket fit and then taped the template on the glass and cut the hole with a jigsaw. Take your time cut it undersized and sand out to the edges for a nice clean finish. Mock up the placement with just the glass lens and bezel to make sure they look the same. Trying to find places to measure from on dune buggy bodies is tough as they are seldom the same side to side. brad
im going to mount it on my removable back. by adding my hyd pedals front and middle i now have leg room.
I did encounter one problem on my install. On mt "T", I mounted them into my fenders and they stick through about 2" or so. That was too much and my tires rubbed when I hit a bump. I had to take them out and actually flatten them down with a not so professional hammer. then had to reroute the wiring out the side instead of the back. It works better but still may need to go down 1 size on my tires. Oh well.
stuff happens, mounted bumper on front tires almost hit with lefthand turn.
Blue dots depend on state. Idaho was legal for 69 and older models
got the red ones anyway, truckers get nailed for novelty lights.even got bettle turn signals from jc witney.is that a name out of my past.
