I just acquired one of the 25 Jackrabbits that were produced by Herb Adams and VSE in 1990. The car is in very nice condition and was only driven one summer before it was put into dry storage for 20 years to make time for an airplane project.
The car has a 1.8 liter 16v fuel injected engine. The interior was never finished. The build quality is excellent. This is a very rare car indeed.
"A 1980s kit to turn a rusted first-series VW Golf, or any Scirocco, into wedge-shaped open two-seater called the Jackrabbit. The name recalls one of the earliest of all sports cars, the Apperson Jack Rabbit speedster of 1907. Herb Adams was one of the team which revitalized Pontiac in the 1960s, and was a noted engineer in Trans-Am racing. "
Very nice video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V5xgglhqEWg
I haven't decided what to do with the car yet. I was looking for either a Deserter GS or a Manx SR when I found the Jackrabbit. I traded it for a project car that I had about $5k tied up in.
I would be interested in a Deserter GS or Manx SR or other interesting street buggy trade, or hearing from other Jackrabbit owners to learn what my options for finishing this car could be.
