I have just aquired a dune buggy, never had one before so I don't know squat about the models.
I traded it for a 30 ft cabin cruiser vessel as I could store it in my garage and passify my neighbors
as opposed to a 30' boat sitting in the drive way.

So the insurance assesment say it is a 1961 Mayer Manx II Dune buggy.
The front emlem shows "MANX" insignia bit its painted on.
The motor is a 1961 1600CC dual port engine and supposedly rebuilt.
Starts right up and runs real strong burns no oil.

I have attached pics. but one thing I did notice when I looked for any Manx Plaques
was that in the rear part of the tub under the seat betweent the battery cavity and the empty cavity
there was an embossment in the fibre glass showing "IRWIN"???

Anyways, any help would be appreciated!

Sounds like an Irwin Wrangler, lets see some pics

From that one photo the front end seems a little too flat for a Manx.....I could be wrong. Definitely need more pics.

The fact that you say it has a battery well and a spare tire well easily rules this out as a Manx II. (Manx II had a flat rear seating shelf in order to specifically clear the IRS rear suspension). Finding the IRWIN identification on the buggy is pretty much a dead giveaway that its an IRWIN. Irwin made a few buggies, they copied the Manx they copied (under license) the Kyote, and they had the Wrangler, which reminds me of a bug-eyed sprite in the front.

I would say you have an Irwin Manx. http://www.dunebuggyarchives.com/gallery/base/Irwin%20Manx/?base=14c1bea73f59fa988f66d00d169ceb04

Jay I took those photo's when I went to a Canadian show back in 2000  :-) I am always documenting, this was a great catch with it's hood emblem.

Nice catch Bart. Its a good feeling when you find a buggy we don't have documented and can provide those. I'm sure you have tons more. Seems you always have a picture of some unknown buggy in your archives. I'd say we need to get them all here on the DBA except I would probably be busy for months to get them all in the right spots! ;-)

I believe your are right!
The pic you provided is pretty close to the buggy I have.

So was the Irwin "Manx" built under license through Meyers Manx or is it a knock off?

This is the website where I have the pictures posted. Copy & paste into browser and you should get there.
I could not post here due to large file size.

Not to be a spoil sport but it technically is not an IRWIN MANX. It is an IRWIN buggy that is a somewhat close representation of a Meyers Manx. Irwin never made a "manx".

You are absolutely right. I was going on the premise that that model is names "Irwin Manx" here on the DBA. I had a look at the advertising literature and there is nothing of the sort.

Sorry for the confusion. Monomanx7 Thanks for setting the record straight.

I'll have to look in what info I have, but I don't think I have Irwins name for this one, but I'll double check

The ad mentions both "Irwin Dune Buggy" as well as "Irwin Superwheels" in smaller text in the body of the ad.
