i have the older steering wheel colum but i would like to have a lock and blinkers and etc that mine doesn't have. So i went to the VW show in harwington and got a super beetle sterring wheel. will it work in my bug that most likely has a 64 style colum? or do i need to modify it?

Sorry Jake, I have no idea if it will work. Have you tried to fit it on the steering box yet? You might be the pioneer and have to report back to us if it works without any modification.

The SB wheel will not fit the splines on the older VW steering column. Your best bet is to swap out the entire column.

i'll let you all know if it works when i bring it out with me to AZ next time to work on my buggy.

Jerry (Sandsurfer) is very knowledgeable. I'm sure you'll find out that its just as he says... the splines won't line up.

when you say whole culom what do you mean because i got the shaft too is there something at the end your talkign about that i would need to replace too?

The steering wheel has female splines built into it and they slip over male splines on the steering shaft. The early steering shaft has different splines than the later model steering shaft and consequently the steering wheels are not interchangeable. 
The steering shaft is not interchangeable between columns as well.
