the Dune Buggy Archives

The Summer of 2006 I completed my Deserter GS/GT street buggy. I replicated an original GS mid-engine frame from scratch and skinned the frame with high strength aluminum using structural stainless steel rivets and structural adhesive. The plan was to build the body from scratch in aluminum. Well, I got the rear end of the car built and realizing it would take me forever to complete the whole car in aluminum I got an original Deserter body from my friend Bob Elliott, another Deserter nut. The body was in extremely poor shape and required extensive fiberglass work on the entire top and bottom. The 2332cc engine has a turbo blowing through dual 44IDF Webers. The whole motor is built from serious duty components and cranks out 270hp at 10psi boost and can go to 15psi boost on pump gas. The car was clocked electronically doing 0-60mph in 4.6 seconds even with my amateurish starts. My photos page at http://mikeragonese.shutterfly.com/action/ documents the entire build. I'm sure you will find it interesting. Happy cruising, Mike(RAGS)Ragonese
