I became interested in Manx Style buggys after building one with my Brother, for my Sister and Sister-in Law to race around the dunes in while we were playing in our sandrails at Silver Lake. Once the Buggy was completed and I played around the dunes in it for a while I found out I really liked it. We have since built them a 2nd buggy, a bright red Berrien Nostalgia on a red Berrien frame and it can be seen bouncing around Silver Lake on a regular basis.
To Make a long story short...I now have 1-red metalflake original Manx hanging in the rafters of the barn.
1-orange original Manx powered by a 1914cc VW that I built for it. It is driven on and off road as often as possible.
I also own Siggy Manx #59 (blue metalflake). It is a work in progress. When it finally hits the road it will be sporting a Turbocharged EFI, Scat cased 3133cc (103mm Bore x 94 stroke) engine with Scat "Split port" heads
and it will be rolling on a Berrien chassis. I'm a member of the newly formed Southside Buggistas Dune Buggy Club (Chicago area). You will not see my buggy show up at an event on a towbar or trailer. In my book if it is being pulled by another vehicle....IT'S A TRAILER! |
